Truths About Parenting

The reality is, that being a parent is a blessing.

It’s a honor. It’s a promise. It’s a miracle. It’s a journey. It’s a teaching area for adults lives. It’s also a growing opportunity.

We might be the adults in the equation of parenting but many times we are more childish than our child. As parents we want to install a particular reflection/image in the child’s life but we fail to understand that we (the adult/parent) have been their mirror. Think about that last thought…

As parents we want to install a particular reflection/image in the child’s life but we fail to understand that we (the adult/parent) have been their mirror.

Which brings me to this scripture…

“Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, watching over them—not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not pursuing dishonest gain, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.” – 1 Peter‬ ‭5:2-3‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Quick recap about the scriptures above.

  • The apostle Peter was speaking about the relationship between the pastors and the church. He is counseling the elders how to lead the younger generation. He exhorts the elderly to lead with humility and warns about being cleared minded! Peter then goes on mentioning to those who accept this responsibility, may it be willing and not for any power. May those who accepted this position lead by example. In other words, be doers of the word and not just sayers.

Although these verses are speaking toward the pastors, it is also bringing light to parents. Parents are called to pastor their home and be an example to their children. We should be more willing to raise the children we so much desired. We should want to guide them because we care; than by obligations. We should be a clear example for them. We might mess up because we ain’t perfect. However, we should always strive to be better for our children.

Life has been one crazy roller coaster and not everyone has the chance that others may have. However, everyone does have the chance to make it right or different, for the next generation.

Our homes are our first ministry. Let’s pastor well what God has already given us.
